Pyschic Powers in Ring | London Evening Standard Japan’s most successful horror, taken from a best-selling book by director Hideo Nakata, has already spawned a prequel, a sequel and a spin-off. None of them, however, matches it for atmospherics as TV reporter Reiko (Nanako Matsushima) attempts to solve the riddle of the ghostly video which, when watched, causes death within a week.

BBC - Films - review A gentle but powerful tale of a curse which comes through the TV screen and kills those who watch a particularly scary video. A reporter and her ex-husband investigate.
Ringu As good as The Ring is, it can't top the original for sheer, shivering terror. The 1998 film from director Hideo Nakata broke box-office records in Japan. For years you had to have a black-market connection to get a copy of the video in America.

The Ring Genuinely creepy for most of its length, and with an oblique approach to basically genre material, Japanese psycho-chiller "The Ring" recalls Kiyoshi Kurosawa's "Cure" in its gradual evocation of evil lying await beneath the surface of normality.
The Ring (Ringu) | London Evening Standard It takes a lot to scare me in the movies. A youth misspent gorging on horror films ancient and modern, celebrated and obscure, has reduced my capacity for celluloid-inspired terror to almost zero. It is with some amazement, then, that I make the following admission: Ring put the willies up me, big time.
Ring 2008, directed by Hideo Nakata Time has been very kind to Hideo Nakata’s sublime, quietly terrifying 1997 techno-horror, re-released for Halloween night (see more Halloween screenings on pag
