Professor Abronsius and his apprentice Alfred are on the hunt for vampires. After a long, cold ride through the forest, the two hunters come to a small village and find refuge in a small inn. There, they discover a group of townspeople who perform strange rituals to fend off an unknown evil. Alfred starts to fall for the ink-keeper's young daughter, but when she is kidnapped by mysterious count Krolock, him and the professor will be forced to discover what that evil everyone fears really is.
