A Japanese anthology film based on Edogawa Ranpo's works includes four segments. The first, "Mars Canal," follows a naked man wandering a desolate landscape remembering his former lover. In "Mirror Hell," a detective investigates burnt women, aided by a mysterious hand mirror. "Caterpillar" depicts a war hero, deaf and limbless, tormented by his unsympathetic wife. Finally, "Crawling Bugs" tells the story of an actress taken by her limo driver after a successful night on stage.
