Several swamp land men have died by strangulation, believed to be the vengeful act of an innocent man hanged long ago. Maria, the granddaughter of the unjustly executed ferryman, takes charge of the ferry service. Chris Sanders, the son of one of the hangmen, and Maria fall in love. The "strangler" captures Chris, and Maria offers her own life for his release.
