A knowing mélange of recognizable genre tropes bordering on shopworn cliché, with little else introduced to the equation to justify its existence.

Until the 80-minute mark, “Extraterrestrial” is a slick, pacey but not particularly scary or surprising not-quite-slasher, the only real dif being that instead of being bloodily offed, characters mostly get snatched by their alien abductors to a fate unknown.

Another gang of obnoxious American teenagers, another secluded cabin in the deep, dark woods, another lurking supernatural presence. This scaring-by-numbers hor
