George Dumurrier and his brother Henry run a medical clinic, but Henry worries about George's overwork, debt, and questionable ethics. George's marriage to his sickly wife Susan is strained by his affair with photographer Jane Bleeker. When Jane ties to end the affair and leaves town, George learns Susan has died from an asthmatic attack, leaving him a $2 million insurance beneficiary. Suspected of murder, George is tailed by an investigator. The plot thickens when George and Jane encounter a stripper resembling his dead wife.
