Vineyard owner Marquis Philippe de Montfaucon is summoned back to his castle, Bellenac, due to another dry season. Despite his urging for his wife and children to remain in London, they decide to accompany him. Soon, Catherine de Montfaucon observes her husband's peculiar behavior and uncovers the ancient pagan rituals conducted by his employees, which demand the sacrifice of the marquis to ensure the crops' fertility.
